Program Overview
All Star Children’s Foundation offers a comprehensive practicum training program for advanced doctoral psychology graduate students. The externship provides specialized training in evaluation, consultation, and intervention at ASCF’s Pediatric Mental Health Treatment and Research Center, located on its campus in Sarasota, Florida.
Supervision & Training Structure
All externs receive at least one hour of individual supervision by a licensed clinical psychologist, with multiple opportunities for additional individual and group supervision. Beyond clinical training, externs participate in numerous didactic experiences alongside other trainees, including social work interns and psychology interns and fellows.
Clinical Focus & Evidence-Based Practice
Externs receive comprehensive training in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of children and adolescents with child welfare involvement. Training emphasizes evidence-based protocols, such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and includes providing consultation to caregivers and family members. Externs also assist with psychological assessments and participate in multidisciplinary trauma assessments and developmental screenings for youth entering the child welfare system.
