Former Sarasota Chief of Police Peter Abbott Joins All Star Children’s Foundation Board of Directors

All Star Children’s Foundation today announced that former Sarasota Chief of Police Peter Abbott has joined its Board of Directors, bringing decades of leadership in public safety, governance, and community service to the organization’s work supporting children and families in the foster care system.

Abbott began his career with the New York Police Department, rising to Inspector and Executive Officer in the Office of the First Deputy Commissioner. During his tenure, he completed graduate studies at Columbia University’s Police Management Institute and at the FBI’s Quantico Academy, and served as a first responder at Ground Zero on September 11.

In 2002, Abbott was appointed Chief of Police for the Sarasota Police Department, where he served until 2010. As Chief, he led the city’s public safety strategy, strengthened regional partnerships, and guided the department through a period of operational growth and community engagement. His leadership focused on building trust, strengthening systems, and protecting the community’s well-being.

“I am honored to join the Board of All Star Children’s Foundation,” Abbott said. “Throughout my career in public service, I have seen how strong, coordinated systems of care can change lives. All Star’s commitment to helping children heal and build stable futures is work I deeply believe in, and I look forward to supporting the organization’s mission.”

Abbott now serves as a Certified Financial Planner with Edward Jones, where he manages more than $500 million in client assets. His expertise in strategic planning, fiscal oversight, and governance will support All Star Children’s Foundation as it continues advancing innovative, trauma-informed care and long-term solutions for children and families in foster care.

“Peter’s leadership and lifelong commitment to service make him an exceptional addition to our Board,” said Stephen Fancher, Interim CEO. “His experience in governance, public safety, and strategic planning comes at an important time in our organization’s evolution, and his guidance will help us continue building a stronger, more responsive system of care for the children and families we serve.”
