Peter Abbott was born in Queens, New York, and raised on Long Island in a family of six children. He became the first in his family to graduate from college, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from Hofstra University. He began his career with the New York Police Department, rising through the ranks from patrol officer in Brooklyn to Inspector and Executive Officer in the Office of the First Deputy Commissioner. During his service, he completed graduate studies at Columbia University’s Police Management Institute and executive training with the FBI in Quantico. He served as a first responder with the NYPD at Ground Zero on 9/11.
After retiring from the NYPD, Peter was appointed Chief of Police of the Sarasota Police Department in 2002, serving until 2010. He later earned a Master’s degree from the University of South Florida and joined Edward Jones in 2011, where he helps clients grow and protect their assets as a Certified Financial Planner and currently manages over $500 million in client assets.
Peter serves on several community boards and has long been active in civic leadership across Sarasota. He and his wife Marcy have two grown children, Ashley and Travis.
